One of the most rewarding parts of being a luxury wedding cake designer in Devon is seeing how every carefully crafted detail fits into the magic of a couple’s big day. From initial design sketches to the final flourishes of sugar flowers, it’s always a joy to witness the cake as part of the complete celebration—especially when it’s captured so beautifully by a talented photographer.
Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of designing a bespoke autumn wedding cake for the lovely Tori and Colin, who celebrated their wedding in November at the breathtaking Tree Top Escape—a secluded and intimate North Devon wedding venue nestled in a private wooded valley. With its elevated glass-fronted ceremony room and sweeping countryside views, Tree Top Escape is truly one of Devon’s hidden gems, perfect for micro weddings, elopements, and romantic, small-scale celebrations.
The Couple: Tori & Colin
For Tori and Colin, their wedding was the perfect reflection of what a romantic, seasonal celebration should be—elegant, intimate, and deeply personal. Every detail of their day was thoughtfully chosen to reflect their unique style and love story, from the warm autumnal colour palette to the handcrafted elements that added a bespoke touch. Their celebration felt effortlessly refined, yet inviting and cosy, creating an atmosphere where guests could truly relax and soak in the magic of the moment. It was a beautiful balance of sophistication and heart - a day filled with meaningful moments, stunning scenery, and stylish seasonal charm.
The Venue: Tree Top Escape in North Devon
The couple chose Tree Top Escape, a stunning, secluded wedding venue located in a wooded valley in North Devon, as the setting for their special day. This unique glass-fronted venue offers panoramic views across rolling countryside, creating a serene and private atmosphere perfect for micro weddings, elopements, and intimate celebrations. Tree Top Escape feels like it’s floating above nature, giving couples an extraordinary and peaceful place to say “I do.” Surrounded by lush greenery and natural beauty, it’s one of the most romantic wedding locations in the South West.
The Wedding Cake
Tori and Colin had a beautifully clear vision for their wedding cake: something stylish, seasonal, and timeless that would complement the elegant atmosphere of their intimate autumn wedding. From our very first conversation, it was clear they wanted a design that would feel both classic and meaningful - something that would stand out visually while also fitting seamlessly into the warm, romantic aesthetic of their day.
We worked closely to bring that vision to life, resulting in a three-tiered pure white wedding cake that was both refined and full of seasonal character. The cake was adorned with an intricate arrangement of handcrafted sugar flowers, each one carefully designed to reflect the rich tones and textures of autumn. Delicate sugar roses, anemones, and flower buds in shades of soft peach, deep burgundy, and muted reds were paired with lifelike sugar blackberries and green foliage. The result was a stunning, sculptural bouquet that added depth, colour, and elegance, capturing the very essence of the season and making the cake a true centrepiece of the celebration.
The floral arrangement featured:
Sugar roses in warm peach tones
Deep burgundy and white anemones
Sugar blackberries and delicate flower buds
Lush green foliage
The colour palette of deep burgundy, warm peach, and soft reds added an autumnal richness that tied in beautifully with their floral arrangements and décor. These colours and textures brought warmth and vibrancy to the cake, echoing the couple’s floral arrangements and adding a beautiful seasonal flourish. The cake flavour was two tiers of delicious Lemon and Elderflower, a fresh flavour combination that aligned perfectly with the natural surroundings.
A Cake Worth Celebrating
The cake was proudly displayed in the drinks reception area, where it instantly became a standout feature of the space. Positioned thoughtfully to greet guests as they arrived, it was surrounded by glowing lanterns, lush autumnal florals, and soft ambient lighting—a carefully curated scene that created a sense of warmth, romance, and celebration. The elegant white tiers and rich sugar flower detailing contrasted beautifully with the deep tones of the surrounding décor, making the cake not only a sweet treat but a true visual statement.
One of my absolute favourite moments from the day was captured in a candid photograph shared by the bride—a heartwarming image of Tori and Colin cutting the cake while guests looked on with smiles, phones in hand to snap the moment. It’s those unscripted, joy-filled scenes that stay with me long after the last tier has been sliced. They remind me why I’m so passionate about what I do—creating cakes that don’t just look beautiful, but become part of the memories couples will treasure for a lifetime.
