From First Enquiry to Wedding Day: The Lulu’s Primrose Bakery Experience
A personal, collaborative approach to creating your wedding cake
Choosing your wedding cake should be about more than simply choosing a flavour and a design. It is one of the details that becomes part of your wedding day - something your guests will see, photograph, enjoy and remember. So I believe the process of creating it should feel just as intentional as the cake itself.
At Lulu’s Primrose Bakery, every wedding cake is bespoke, and I work closely with each couple throughout the process to create something that feels personal to them, beautifully suited to their wedding and, most importantly, completely delicious.
Here’s what you can expect when you enquire.
1. It starts with a conversation
Every wedding is different, and I love finding out what makes yours yours. When you first enquire, I’ll ask about your wedding day, your venue, guest numbers, the style you’re drawn to and any ideas you already have for your cake. You don't need to have everything decided before getting in touch. Perhaps you have a very clear vision. Perhaps you've saved hundreds of beautiful cakes and have no idea how to narrow them down. Or perhaps you simply know that you want something elegant, romantic and completely you.
That's all absolutely fine!
Part of my role is to take all those ideas and help bring them together into a cake design that works beautifully for your day.
2. Choosing your flavours
Of course, a wedding cake needs to look beautiful, but it needs to taste wonderful too. I offer a selection of flavours designed to work beautifully for weddings, and my flavour boxes are a lovely way to explore your options before making your decision.
It's one of my favourite parts of the process because choosing your flavours makes the cake feel real. You can taste the combinations, discover your favourites and decide what you'd love your guests to enjoy on the day, and yes, you are absolutely allowed to have more than one flavour!
3. Your ideas become a design
Once I understand what you're looking for, this is where the collaboration really begins. I don't believe in simply taking a photograph you've found online and reproducing it. Instead, I'll take inspiration from the things you love and translate them into a design that works specifically for your wedding. That might be your stationery, flowers, colour palette, venue, dress details or even something as simple as a texture or shape you've fallen in love with.
We'll consider the overall feel of your wedding and how the cake will sit within it. The aim is for the finished cake to feel as though it belongs at your wedding, rather than looking like something that could have been created for anyone. And if you're unsure about something, that's where my experience comes in. I'll happily make suggestions, explain what I think will work best and help you make decisions along the way.
4. Everything is carefully quoted
Once we have a clear idea of your cake, I'll put together your quotation with all the relevant details. I want you to know exactly what you're receiving and what is included, so there are no surprises further down the line. Your cake is then secured in my diary once your booking is confirmed and your booking payment has been received. From there, your wedding date is officially yours!
5. The little details matter
As your wedding gets closer, we'll make sure all those final details are right. Cake design, flavours, finishing touches and any additional elements all come together to create the finished look.
This is also where things such as cake stands, wedding favours or dessert tables can be considered alongside your cake, if you'd like your sweet details to feel beautifully coordinated. I can help you look at the bigger picture rather than treating each element as something completely separate. Because sometimes it's the small details - a beautifully chosen cake stand, a colour picked up from your flowers or a personalised biscuit that echoes your stationery, that make everything feel wonderfully cohesive.
6. Then it's over to me
As your wedding day approaches, my job is to make sure your cake is one less thing for you to worry about. There is a lot that happens behind the scenes to create a bespoke wedding cake - from baking and filling each tier to creating all those delicate finishing details by hand. And when your cake leaves the bakery, it isn't simply a cake. It's the finished result of all those conversations, decisions, ideas and little details we've worked through together.
A cake that's completely yours
The couples I work with don't need to arrive knowing exactly what they want. In fact, some of my favourite designs have come from conversations where we started with a collection of ideas and gradually shaped them into something completely unique.
My role isn't simply to make the cake. It's to listen, advise, create and collaborate, while bringing my own experience and creative eye to the process.
So whether you arrive with a beautifully organised Pinterest board or simply tell me “I don't really know what I want, but I know I want it to feel special,” we'll work it out together. Because your wedding cake should be more than something beautiful to look at.
Your wedding, your style, beautifully interpreted.
