Ravi & Puja’s Coastal Wedding at Sandy Cove Hotel, Ilfracombe

A real North Devon wedding by the sea

Few places say “romance” like the dramatic coastline at Sandy Cove Hotel in Ilfracombe. Ravi & Puja chose this clifftop haven for an intimate, stylish celebration overlooking the water — and I was delighted to design their cake for such a beautiful North Devon wedding.

Lulus Primrose Bakery is based in Devon & Cornwall and known for personal service and bespoke, flavour-forward designs — the perfect fit for a relaxed, modern coastal day.

The tone & palette

The overall aesthetic was clean, contemporary and romantic, guided by a soft coastal palette of ivory, powder blue and fresh green. From Puja’s embellished two-piece with a beaded fringe to Ravi’s light stone waistcoat and open-neck shirt, the look felt effortless and elegant — ideal for an oceanside ceremony.

  • Bouquets & florals: ivory roses and lisianthus, airy gypsophila, delicate powder-blue delphiniums, and eucalyptus for movement; finished with pale blue ribbons.

  • Bridal details: modern clear-strap nude mules kept things chic and understated.

  • Tablescape: clear beaded charger plates, crystal glassware, and blue taper candles framed a lush low runner of white and blue blooms. A custom monogram carried through the menus and signage.

The wedding cake: modern, minimal and coastal-ready

For Ravi & Puja I created a sleek single-tier buttercream cake with horizontal ridged texturing — a subtle nod to gentle wave patterns. We finished the design with a cluster of white florals and touches of powder-blue botanicals, echoing the bouquets and stationery.

Displayed on a simple white board and set near the windows, the cake caught the soft coastal light beautifully — timeless in photos and sized perfectly for an intimate celebration. Inside, my signature light sponge and silky buttercream kept every slice as good as it looked.

Why this design works at Sandy Cove:

  • Clean lines and tone-on-tone white keep the look modern against dramatic sea views.

  • Delicate blue accents tie the cake into coastal florals without feeling themed.

  • Buttercream texture adds depth on camera and withstands bright natural light.
