Set against the spectacular coastal views at Sandy Cove, this bespoke wedding cake was inspired by the sea, combining soft ocean tones, handcrafted details and delicate fresh flowers to create a design that felt completely at home overlooking the North Devon coastline.
A Coastal Wedding Cake Inspired by the Sea
Alison and Peter wanted a wedding cake that reflected the beauty of their venue while keeping the overall design timeless and elegant.
The three-tier cake featured a soft pale blue ombré textured buttercream finish, gradually fading into crisp white to mirror the colours of the sea and sky. The textured buttercream added depth and movement, creating a relaxed yet luxurious finish that complemented the coastal setting perfectly.
To enhance the seaside theme, I handcrafted delicate sugar seashells, placing them around the base of the cake alongside fresh white roses, lisianthus and soft blue flowers. Every sugar shell was made by hand, giving the cake a truly bespoke finish that celebrated Alison and Peter’s love of the coast.
Wedding Cake Flavours

For Alison and Peter’s wedding, they chose two delicious flavours that were perfect for a summer celebration:
Champagne & Strawberry – a light, elegant sponge paired with champagne-infused buttercream and sweet strawberries.
Lemon & Elderflower – a fresh, zesty sponge filled with fragrant elderflower buttercream for a beautifully refreshing flavour.
These combinations are always popular with couples looking for sophisticated flavours that complement a summer wedding.
Matching Mini Cakes
To complete the display, I created a selection of matching mini cakes, styled alongside the wedding cake for a beautifully coordinated dessert display.
The individual cakes echoed the same elegant design and flavours, giving guests an alternative way to enjoy dessert while creating a luxurious focal point for the reception. Together, the wedding cake and mini cakes made a stunning centrepiece that perfectly suited the modern, coastal setting at Sandy Cove.
